The surroundings are as special as the house itself. The ancient basalt stone walls, built to protect the vineyards from the force of the wind and sea spray, continue to shape the landscape and preserve the identity of this Atlantic coast. Walking through these quiet streets, feeling the aroma of fig trees warmed by the sun and hearing the sea breaking against the rocks is an experience that remains in memory long after the journey ends.
Just a few minutes’ walk away are some of the most beautiful spots on the southern coast of the island, such as Porto da Caloura, ideal for diving in crystal-clear waters, the Natural Pool at Ponta da Galera (Cerco) and Praia da Baixa d’Areia, one of the most appreciated sandy beaches on São Miguel. In the vicinity you will also find excellent restaurants, diving centres, coastal trails and various sea-related activities.
Despite the tranquillity of the location, Caloura Essence is only about 20 km from Ponta Delgada and João Paulo II Airport, allowing you to easily explore some of the island’s most emblematic sites, such as Lagoa do Fogo, the Furnas and Sete Cidades. If you visit São Miguel during August, you can also experience the traditional Festas de Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, in Água de Pau, one of the island’s most genuine celebrations.
