The parish of Furnas, located in the municipality of Povoação, on the island of São Miguel, is one of the most emblematic places in the Archipelago of the Azores.
This town has a lot to offer, namely the beautiful Lagoa das Furnas, about 2 km away. It is a lagoon that presents a landscape of great beauty and peace of mind, and on its banks one of the most famous and appreciated delicacies in the entire archipelago is made: the famous stew (of meat or cod) from Furnas! Also not to be missed are the fumaroles where boiling water geysers spring up. They are areas of concentration of thermal springs and other geothermal manifestations, which cause an indescribable panorama, of rare natural beauty.
A few meters from Vila Vale das Furnas you can enjoy a therapeutic bath, with medicinal mud, with water at around 39º, in Poça da Beija or in Terra Nostra Park. In the latter, you can get to know a 19th century garden. XVIII, considered one of the most beautiful in the world by specialty magazines and one of the most romantic in Portugal.
About 7 km away, in the parish of Ribeira Quente, you will find Praia do Fogo, named for its water temperature, due to the existence of several underwater hydrothermal vents.
At about 5 km you can see the friendly Vila das Furnas in the viewpoints of Pico do Ferro and Salto do Cavalo.
